Staff Development Coordinator

SUMMARY:

Responsible for overall planning, development, implementation and coordination of in-service, orientation programs and training activities designed to promote the policies, philosophy, objectives and procedures of the rehabilitation services and facilities by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following:

  • Provide the continuing education of all nursing personnel.

  • Act as advisor to other Department Heads in the promotion of in-service education in their respective departments.

  • Plan, organize, coordinate and conduct approved continuing education programs.

  • Conduct both formal and informal training programs to teach new or review existing techniques and procedures.

  • Act as a resource person regarding the particular educational needs of each facility.

  • Recommend, guide and assist in programs for proper recruitment and selection of qualified personnel.

  • Plan and implement orientation programs for new staff members and ensure thorough orientation of each new employee.

  • Develop, design and coordinate programs to keep nursing staff abreast of new and expanding nursing care programs, new techniques, equipment, facilities and concepts of care.

  • Ensure that the in-service program is planned, scheduled, documented and held on a continuing basis.

  • Provide an adequate library of professional books and current periodicals, making them available to staff.

  • Conduct and/or arrange for technical and professional seminars, utilizing Regional personnel expertise as indicated.

  • Maintain knowledge of current developments and regulations relative to D.P.H., H.E.W., J.C.A.H.O. and other appropriate agencies and commissions to assist in providing innovative approaches to the care of the elderly.

  • Assist nursing personnel with resident teaching through literature, equipment and other programs.

  • Recommend budget and equipment needs to the Administrator and the Vice President.

  • Develop and maintain current reports and records as necessary.

  • In cases of emergency, will assist residents out of facility.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Fifth year college or university program certificate. LPN or RN licensure in Massachusetts; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in Long Term Care.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints. Ability to speak effectively before groups of residents or employees of the Company.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
